How to Evaluate a Commercial AC EV Charger Supplier Before Ordering
Evaluate a commercial AC charger supplier through certification checks, software testing, local deployment evidence, site trials and a controlled pilot order.

Choosing a commercial AC EV charger supplier should be a process of reducing uncertainty.
A catalog helps you shortlist products. A quotation helps you compare commercial terms. Neither tells you everything about how the equipment will perform with your software, at your site and with your customers.
A practical evaluation follows a clear sequence:
Check the certification, review the software, test representative hardware, install it on site and then move to a controlled small-batch order.
Each stage should answer questions before you commit more money.
- Check certification for the actual product
- Ask for the certification documents and listing details for the exact model being offered.
- Check that the model designation, electrical rating and destination-market scope match the proposed supply. If the product will carry your brand, ask how that branding is covered.

- A certificate does not demonstrate that a charger works with your backend. Treat product compliance and software compatibility as separate checks.
Review software before committing to a hardware rollout
Ask the supplier to demonstrate the functions your customer will actually use.
For a commercial project, these might include driver authorization, session records, remote commands, charging schedules and power limits.
An app demonstration is useful for understanding the interface. It does not replace testing the proposed charger with the intended charging management system.
Before buying a large quantity, agree how you will access a representative sample—through a loan, evaluation purchase or another documented arrangement. The sample should match the configuration proposed for production.

- “Have you sold overseas?” is too broad.
- Ask whether the same or a closely comparable configuration has been installed in your target country. Then ask what makes that installation relevant:
- Did it use the same backend and firmware?
Was it installed in an apartment building, workplace or public site?
- What electrical supply and network connection were used?
How long has it been operating?
- What commissioning or service issues appeared?
- An installation photograph shows that equipment was installed. It does not establish operating performance. Where available, request anonymized commissioning records, service summaries or a customer reference the supplier has permission to share.
- Make the test conditions representative
- Several identical samples tested under the same conditions may reveal less than a carefully chosen set of operating scenarios.
- For example, an apartment project might need checks involving different vehicles, the intended resident-access method and the actual parking-area network connection. A two-port charger should be tested with both ports active.
- Vary the conditions that matter to the project, while keeping the test record clear enough to identify the cause of a problem.
Install and evaluate the complete process
A field trial should examine installation and serviceability as well as charging.
Can the installer access the terminals comfortably? Are the instructions clear? Does the cable reach the intended parking positions? How long does commissioning take?
Also check recovery after a controlled network interruption and confirm that session records remain usable.
Record the hardware version, firmware, settings and unresolved issues. Define acceptance criteria before testing rather than deciding afterward that the sample “looks fine.”
- Use a small batch to test repeatability
- After the sample and site trial meet the agreed criteria, a small-batch order can test consistency across units.
- Track installation time, commissioning results, charging behavior and support requests. Agree which component or firmware changes require your approval.
- The batch size should reflect the project and the supplier’s commercial terms. Its purpose is to establish repeatable performance before expansion.
